JV - JJP vs Jesuit
The JJ Pearce JV Boys gave it all they had against Jesuit Thursday night but in the end fell short 28-37. The final outcome was not determined until very late in the game. In the end injuries and some key mistakes were just finally too much for the young Mustangs to overcome.
The Mustang defense had trouble all night stopping the ground game of the Rangers. They ended up allowing 292 yards to a very strong rushing game. The Mustangs did hold them to 22 yards passing and had some key pass breakups to shut down the aerial attack. Overall the Mustangs defense kept most of the Ranger attack between the 20’s and out of the end zone. On occasion though the Rangers got great field position and the Mustangs were unable to make some needed stops.
The Mustang offense just keeps getting thinner. Still missing some key components to their success the Mustangs kept fighting and did the best they could to stay in the game. The bad news this week was that the Mustangs rushing attack was completely shut down by a very well schemed Jesuit defense. Bo Brewer and Pablo Velazquez combined for only 15 yard rushing. This was the first team that sold out and made the Mustangs work through the air only. The Mustangs of course took advantage and rolled up some big yards and TDs.
Bo Brewer – 12-25, 322 yards, 4 TDs and 3 Interceptions
Pablo Velazquez – 4 for 134 yards and 1 TD
Nick Orlich – 5 for 97 and 2 TDs
William Hayward – 1 for 64 and a TD
Trent Royce – 2 for 27
The Mustangs struggled in the first half from the whistle falling behind 14-30 at halftime. With all that had gone wrong you thought this group might pack it in and look towards the next matchup. But that as always is not the case with this group. They came out of the break with a fire and Bradford Holley recovered a POOCH kick to get things started. Brewer took the team right down the field for a touchdown to make the score 21-30. Next the defense came up with a stop although Jesuit ate up a lot of clock. Once Brewer and the offense got the ball back they again could not be stopped and went right back down the field to make it 28-30. This fight is why many think this group has a chance to be special as they move forward at Pearce.
The JV Mustangs hook up with the WT White Longhorns this Wednesday October 19th at Loos Field House in Dallas. The game starts at 7pm so if you are looking for a great way to spend your evening make the trip out and watch these boys play.

JV Recap - JJP vs Berkner
The JJ Pearce JV ran their record to 5-1 overall, 2-0 in district with a 35-18 win over the Berkner Rams Thursday night at Berkner. The matchup featured the passing offense of the Mustangs vs the running offense of the Rams. In the end the Mustangs prevailed with contributions from both sides of the ball.
The offense got back on track in a big way this week. Bo Brewer connected on TD passes with Nick Orlich (3) and Jackson Waddell (1). The other TD was provided by Jack Liscio with a nice run up the middle for 4 yards. Brewer worked hard this week to spread the ball and really put pressure on the Berkner defense. The JV group has had to withstand numerous injuries so getting everybody connected and moving in the right direction has taken some time. This week Brewer found Orlich, Waddell, Trent Royse and Dennis Studaway with passes. Here is a stat recap of the game….
Passing
Bo Brewer – 19-26 380 yards, 4 TDs, 12 rushes for 41 yards
Alex LaFlamme – 1-2 19 yards
Rushing
Bo Brewer 12 rushes for 41 yards
Clement Ohenhen – 4 for 12 yards
Jack Liscio – 5 for 6 yards and a TD
Receiving
Nick Orlich – 10 – 174 (3 TDS)
Jackson Waddell – 5 – 142 (1 TD)
Trent Royce – 3 – 53yards
Dennis Studaway – 2 – 30yards
The DEFENSE continued to improve holding Berkner to 224 yards rushing on 54 passing. Most of the damage done by Berkner came on a 70 yard run that got them within 10 points just before the half. This defense is certainly built to bend but not break. Everybody on the D contributed as the defense swarmed to the ball. Big plays included an interception by John Aldridge and a HUGE pass break up by Dennis Studaway late in the game. Chance Pease provided the hit of the night as he destroyed a Berkner runner with a BIG HIT!
The Mustangs look to stay undefeated in district play this week vs the Jesuit on Thursday at the Pearce B Field. Game time is 5:30pm. We hope to see you at the field!

JV Recap - JJP vs Coppell Week 5 (link to game highlights video below)The JJ Pearce JV boys hooked up with the Coppell Cowboys last Thursday and hung on for a big win 21-20 at Pearce HS. This game ranks as my second favorite of the year the other being our loss to Wakeland. There is nothing better than watching these boys compete until the final whistle and give it everything they have and more.
The Mustang offense came into this game down a number of players. The Mustangs leading receiver last year Ford Woods remains side lined with a foot injury but rumor has it he might make it back in a couple of weeks. Joining him on the bench for this game due to injury were Collin Carter and Rowan Hall so Bo Brewer was down 3 key members of his offense. The good news is players like Trent Royce and William Hayward were there ready to fill in.
The Mustangs trailed in this game the entire time. The offense struggled throughout as the Coppell defense made some great plays. The good news was the Mustang defense was ready to step up again and do their part! This Mustang JV group has always been led by the offense, we have a great group of skill players so scoring has never been a problem. The challenge has always been on defense, can this group make enough plays/stops to give the offense a chance. The great news is this defense is really starting to find their feet and make some plays. There is no question the Mustang defense can and will be a huge factor in all games moving forward.
Great plays on defense created 2 huge turnovers. Josh Abeyta had a strip sack then recovered the ball on the Coppell 3 yard line. This was a huge momentum shift and enabled the offense to put points on the board. Later in the game Bradford Holley had a tackle, strip and fumble recovery that gave the offense great field position. The defense was also able to stop Coppell on a huge 4th down play with just about 2 minutes left in the game to give the offense a chance to win the game.
So here we go 2 minutes left and the Mustangs take over at their own 10 yard line. First play Brewer goes deep for Nick Orlich and they don’t connect. On 2nd down Brewer goes to Pablo for 20 yards to the Mustang 30. Then Brewer hits Trent Royce on the sideline for 15 more yards but it’s called back on a holding penalty. So there we sit 1st down 20 on our 20 yard line with about 1:30 to go. Brewer again goes deep for Orlich but they just miss, then Brewer on 2nd down scrambles for 10 yards up the middle to the 30. That sets the table for the offensive play of the game, Brewer rolls right on 3rd down and launches a pass deep again to his favorite target Nick Orlich, they connect down to the Coppell 20! Awesome play! Brewer then completes another short pass to the Coppell 15. Then things get a little crazy as the following snap sails over Brewers head, he recovers, rolls right and launches the ball to Orlich in the end zone. Orlich covered tightly by a Coppell defender comes back beautifully for the ball and draws an interference penalty on Coppell to set up first and goal from the 1 with 30 seconds left in the game. The Mustangs out of timeouts run a fade right to Orlich and a fade left to Jackson Waddell, neither connect. So there we sit 3rd and goal with 16 seconds left in the game, down 13-20. Time to dial up the old Parkhill combination of Brewer and Velazquez, Brewer rolls right, Pablo runs out wide into the corner of the end zone and Brewer hits him for the touchdown making the score 19-20. The Mustangs with 10 seconds left have a chance to tie or take the lead for the first time.
Now the Mustangs are faced with another decision. Two weeks ago they were in the exact same place vs Wakeland, went for 2 and came up just short. (My favorite game of the year) Down one the decision was not hard for this group of boys. They want to WIN! Although it did not work against Wakeland the coaches are confident in Brewers ability to get into the end zone so they put the ball and their fate in his hands again. This time there was no denying him as he an right into the line and forced his way into the end zone for the 2 point conversion and a Mustang victory. (21-20)
Below are offense stats for the game, also we hope you come out to support the team on Thursday October 6th as the Mustangs face the undefeated Berkner Rams at Berkner HS. The game starts at 5:30 so get their early and get LOUD!
Bo Brewer – 18-33 231 yards, 2 TDs and 3 Ints, 14 rushes for 93 yards
Nick Orlich – 13 catches – 161 yards, 1 TD
Pablo Velazquez – 6 catches 30 yards, 1 TD, 4 rushes 10 yards
Jackson Waddell – 2 catches 62 yards
Alex Laflamme – 3 – 3 22 yards (Alex started the game at QB as Bo was sick earlier in the week)

JV Recap - JJP vs Richardson Week 4
This of course was rivalry week so we had a backyard battle with the Richardson Eagles. As they have done all season the JV boys stepped up and took care of business. The game was never in doubt as the boys attacked early and often to finish with a 33-6 victory.
The Eagles took the ball first and as expected they immediately worked to test the Mustangs run defense. This gave us a great opportunity to see if we had made any improvement in our run defense. The good news is the boys look like they are starting to figure it out. On the first drive Polk, Holley, Forrester and Moya made big tackles to shut down the Eagle offense down. The Mustangs stopped the Eagles on 4th to get the ball to their offense.
Once the offense had the ball in their hands they made an immediate statement with a 1 play TD drive. QB Bo Brewer hooked up with Nick Orlich for 60yards to put the Mustangs on the board. Brewer and Orlich could not be stopped Thursday night as they played pitch and catch up and down the field. Here is a stat recap…..
Bo Brewer – 15-17 for 254 yards, 3 TDs and 1 int, Brewer also ran for 54 yards and 1 TD on the night
Nick Orlich – 7 receptions for 173 yards and 3 TDs
Pablo Velazquez – 4 rushes 24 yards, 1 TD
The offense in the 1st half could not be stopped as they scored on all 4 possessions to take a 27-0 lead into halftime.
The Mustangs defense played well all night holding the Eagles to just 26 yards passing and 193 yards rushing. The Mustangs gave up a late touchdown but the game was well out of hand at that point. You could credit the entire Mustang defense with great work including: Landon, Aldridge, Hall, Fitch, Brumley, Cullinane, Kim, Pease, Sisson, Barnes and Lewison all made plays.
The biggest play of the night was wiped out on a penalty as special teams. After a fumbled snap on the punt number 71 Chance Pease blew up the punter and Isaiah Polk scooped up the ball and ran it back for an apparent touchdown. A questionable call brought the ball back to the Eagle 16 but 1 play later Brewer and Orlich hooked up again for a touchdown.
The Mustangs have a big one this week at home against the Coppell Cowboys. Games starts at 5:30 Pearce B Field. Come get some popcorn and watch the boys corral the Cowboys!

JV Recap Week 3
JJP vs. Frisco Wakeland - 09/09/16
What a game this week. This was a battle that unfortunately the Mustangs came out on the wrong end of as they fell 27-28. This dropped the Mustangs record to 2-1 as they head into a bye week and start preparations for the Richardson Eagles our first district matchup.
After falling behind in the first half 7-20 the boys went into halftime and decided it was time to make a stand. They came out on fire and took the lead 21-20 late into the 4th quarter. With 6 minutes remaining Wakeland got the ball and made a strong drive that resulted in a touchdown. They decided to go for 2 and were successful making the score 21-28 with about 3 minutes left. This gave Bo Brewer and the Mustang offense all the time they needed to put together a drive that resulted in a touchdown making the score 27-28. At this point the Mustang coaching staff took a timeout and gathered the offense to see what they wanted to do…..Go for the extra point and tie the game or go for 2 and the win? The Mustangs to a man wanted to go for the win so they went for 2! Remember at the JV level there is no overtime, games can end in a tie. Although the attempt was not successful it was good to see the Mustangs take a chance and go for the WIN!
The Mustang offense was slow out of the gate but really picked things up in that 2nd half. Here are some statistics to review from the game…..
Bo Brewer who finished 18-23 for 256 yards, 2 TDs and 1 Int/ 63 yards on 10 carries and another TD.
Nick Orlich who finished with 5 catches for 123 yards and 2 TDs.
Pablo Velazquez – 2 catches 42 yards and 6 rushes for 28 yards
Collin Carter – 6 catches for 38 yard, 4 rushes for 4 yards and 1 TD
The Mustang defense just like the offense started slowly. They gave up 3 touchdowns on 3 possessions in the 1st half. The good news is after corrections at halftime they held Wakeland to 8 points in the 2nd half and allowed the offense to get them back into the game. The leading tackler on the night was the safety Bradford Holley. Biggest hit of the night goes to Dennis Studdaway who again came up big for the Mustangs.
This week the Mustangs have a bye which should give them time to get healthy and prepare for the big RIVALRY matchup on Thursday September 22nd at RHS. (5:30pm) As always we hope you can take the time to come out and support the team!

JV Recap Week 2
JJP vs. Irving Nimitz 08-31-16
Well the JV boys stayed on a ROLL and ripped into Irving Nimitz last night in Irving. The Mustangs won by the final score of
43-0. In front of a hostile crowd in Irving this game was just never in doubt.
The offense led by Bo Brewer and Pablo Velazquez was dominant from the opening drive. After a nice run back on the kickoff from Troy Landon, Brewer took the ball and started ripping the Nimitz secondary apart with laser like accuracy. Completions of 45 and 13 yards to Rowan Hall and Jackson Waddell took the ball down to the Nimitz 2 where a handoff to Pablo Velazquez finished the drive off. The offensive line gave Bo Brewer time to throw all night and opened some great holes for Velazquez and Collin Carter.
The following drives in the first half were not much different. The Nimitz defense was only able to rise up and stop the Mustangs once. On the 2nd drive Brewer went to work again picking apart the secondary with completions of 12 and 7 yards to Nick Orlich, then finished the drive with a 46 yard pass to Waddell that was juggled between players before Waddell pulled it in and ran into the end zone.
The 3rd scoring drive was set up by a big PUNT BLOCK from Isaiah Polk who beat his blocker quickly and laid out to send the punt backwards. Josh Abeyta (fresh off the injury report) scooped it up and ran to the Nimitz 5 yard line where Bo Brewer took it the rest of the way to put the Mustangs up 19-0. The fun continued into the 2nd quarter as Velazquez had a beautiful 21 yard run for a TD to make it 26-0 then on the 6th drive of the game Brewer connected with Velazquez on a nice screen pass that turned into a 25 yard touchdown leaving the Mustangs up 33 – 0. Just before the half the Mustang defense sent Nimitz back to the bench with a 3 and out which provided just enough time for Brewer to lead the Mustangs into field goal range where John Aldridge stepped up and made a 27 yard field goal making the halftime score 36-0.
Padding the stat sheet in just over ½ the game were…
Bo Brewer – 198 yards passing 2TDs, 23 yards rushing 1 TD
Pablo Velazquez – 2 rushing TDs and 1 Receiving TD
As well as the offense played the defense might have played better as a group. They suffocated the Nimitz offense keeping them out of the end zone and forcing multiple turnovers. The BIG PLAY of the night was made by Dennis Studdaway a cornerback that jumped a route on the sideline and took it back 32 yards another Mustang touchdown and giving us the final score of Mustangs 43 – Irving Nimitz 0. As far as tackles everybody was involved, each time a Nimitz player hit the ground 3-4 Mustangs had to work their way off the pile. The Mustangs last night were on a seek and destroy mission and let’s just say mission completed! Big plays/hits were provided by Isaiah Polk, Bradford Holley, Noah Fulk, Jaren Lewison, Chance Pease, CJ Sisson, and many other Mustang defenders. Isaiah Polk also had a nice tackle, strip and fumble recovery that sent the sideline into a frenzy. This Mustang defense is coming together and looking like they could be a FORCE!
The Mustangs begin preparation today for a stiff test next week against the Frisco Wakeland Wolverines at Pearce on Thursday September 8th. (5:30 kickoff) Looking to start the season 3-0 the Wolverines should provide these young Mustangs a great challenge as they prepare for district play starting September 22nd.
Below is a great LINK with highlights and action from last night’s battle in Irving! Enjoy!

The JV kicked off the season in fine fashion with a 34-20 drubbing of the visiting Lions of McKinney High on Thursday evening at Pearce B-Field. The 5:30 kick-off brought high temperatures and bright sunlight, but the young Mustangs seemed unfazed and singularly focused.
The Lions did begin the game with an impressive, 65-yard touchdown drive and two-point conversion to jump out to a 8-0 lead, but the Mustangs dominated the remainder of the half. Running backs Pablo Velazquez and Collin Carter were impressive running the ball and quarterback Bo Brewer connected with Jackson Waddell on an 8-yard TD strike to trim the lead to 8-6. The defense did their job on the ensuing possession and McKinney had a poor punt into the wind, providing a short field for the Ponies. Nick Orlich slipped a tackle and took a short pass 17 yards to ignite the second drive. After Velazquez took a swing pass for another 20 yards, Brewer capped the drive with a 5-yard run to push the lead to 13-7.
The defense, led by head-hunting safety, Bradford Holley, and outstanding linebackers, Isaiah Polk and Jack Brumley, forced a three-and-out to set the table for another impressive drive to start the second quarter. Brewer found Waddell for 15 yards in front of the visiting bench on 3rd and 13 to keep the drive alive, and then Brewer connected with Orlich for 29 yards and a touchdown on a perfectly executed post route to increase the lead to 20-8.
Austin Forrester recovered a Lion fumble at the McKinney 42-yard line on the next possession and the Mustangs were in position to take full control of the game. And that they did. Waddell continued to torch the McKinney secondary on the drive, snagging four passes for 37-yards, including a 7-yard TD catch on 4th and 3 to give the Mustangs a commanding 27-8 lead at halftime. It was the 4th consecutive touchdown drive for the Ponies.
The Mustangs turned the ball over on downs in the Lion’s red zone to begin the second half and McKinney promptly drove the ball 86 yards in 12 plays, all on the ground, to stem the tide and close the gap to 27-14. Brewer found Rowan Hall on a post route early in the next drive for 37 yards into Lion country. On 4th and 16 from the McKinney 29-yard line, Brewer targeted Velazquez up the seam and Velazquez came down with the ball amongst three defenders for the game-clinching touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter.
Bradford Holley, who provided great run support all night, put the cherry on top with an outstanding, fully-extended interception in front of the home bench. QB Alex LaFlamme led an 11-play, clock-killing drive that featured several impressive runs by Velazquez, and a fourth-down pass conversion to Hall to officially slam the door on the visiting Lions.
This is an impressive group, one that is fun to watch and one that is going to do big things at Pearce High School in the near future. They tee it up again this Wednesday, August 31st in Irving against the Nimitz Vikings. Please support them every chance you get, and bring a friend!
